Love the brother and sister with the small cow. The family under the tree feels like another world. Would this be 1954? I wasn't born, (though I suppose I was brewing) so for me, it was a different world. That Cricket label is very stylish!

That clear fellow was at Jay Brotter's booth at the Allentown toy fair five or ten years ago. Is that the photo I posted?  Maybe I mentioned where it was at the time. I'll bet Jay knows all about it. It seems to me it was a yonezawa model, but I could be remembering wrong. I believe E bought it, back then. I'm sorry E doesn't appear anymore. He knew a lot, even if he ruffled feathers.

I've always thought some of those Meccanos were very close to Lilliput, but I was never certain the Meccanos or Erectors were pre 39. Are they? I like your Iron Fireman connection - but I wonder if it's reaching a little far. There's some overall proportion and head similarity, but the body and the arms and legs are quite different. All the facial features are different too.

What about the spark window that's closed on the Alps? Why use that bit of decoration if it's original and not just a modified copy? I like all your reasoning, but I don't think the coil is a convincing factor either. The alps coil is a clever improvement - just a new way to hold in the battery without an additional clasp, just as you were saying. I assume labor was cheaper in Japan at the time. Maybe they could afford those improvements.
