My Aoshin Flying Space Saucer build

16 April 2014 - 04:37 AM

My interpretation of the Aoshin saucer proved to be a lot of fun to build, once I first broke it down into its individual components (a cardstock study model helps). Great opportunity for the use of graphics. As in my previous X-15 saucer build, I brought some litho details of the original into the dimensional. Even though these rockets don't launch, they do light up, plus I've added other lights as well. Saucer size is 12" in diameter. Turret moves up and down and all lights can flash or be steady on. Thanks for looking. -Steve

My X-15 Space Commander Ship build

08 March 2014 - 06:47 PM

I was wondering, what the X-15 Saucer would look like if it was more like the fantastic box art, bringing the decals on the tin saucer to the physical world. Lights, portholes, engines, etc all 3D. Plus give it some real horsepower and a proud tail fin. Also, the addition of some chrome details never hurt. Well here is my interpretation. Headlights, engines, running lights, cockpit lights can be steady on or switch to blinking mode. Credit to my wife for the 'captain's couch' vinyl upholstery stitchery. Saucer diameter is 12 inches, standing 11" with base. Just need to touch up some paint edge lines. Might do the red version next but I've always liked the green variant best. Thanks for looking. -Steve

Buck Rogers 'Variant' Glow in the Dark print

19 February 2014 - 10:35 PM

In addition to the two Forbidden Planet prints I posted earlier, I was able to add the 'variant' edition of the Buck Rogers regular print I already have. This one is a much shorter print run and is made up of glow in the dark inks. Definitely a different 'spacey' color scheme than the regular edition, but it 'glows' on ya! -Steve

New Forbidden Planet / Robby art prints

15 February 2014 - 03:25 AM

I was fortunate enough to get two signed art prints from last weekend's Mondo Art Gallery show in Austin. The gallery's one-man show featured one of my favorite artists, Laurent Durieux, whose a fan of all things retro and robot. He puts so much detail and eye-popping, layered inks in his limited run silk-screen prints. The Forbidden Planet 'regular edition' is the one with the green sky. The 'variant' edition (blue sky) is an even shorter print run AND features the use of glow-in-the-dark inks. When the lights go out, it has a surprise - floating above Dr Morbius' home. I love it when an artist's work shows that he 'gets' his subject. Both of these prints command attention with their 24"x36" size. Love 'em! Enjoy! -Steve
