It was brought to my attention that back in mid 1980s a TV show called the WIZARD had a robot that is claimed to be the first prototype of Johnny 5 no used .
19.Season: 1Episode: 19First Aired: 3/14/1987Prod Code: 4P18.

here is a link to a web site that talks about it.

http://www.tv.com/th...=episodes;title

The main actor was a little person that most of us will know from a movie called Time Bandits where he played the lead.

The robot does have all the johnny 5 type movements and gestures. Short Circuit came out in 1986 so the movie type johnny five robots would have been built in 1985, this last episode of the TV show Wizards was done in 1987, so was it just a rip off / look alike type robot or was it realy the early prototype for Johnny 5?

Nitpick the Robot was an early model of Johnny 5 from the movie Short Circuit. The robot was a last ditch effort to save the show from doom.

Good detective work here, John.
Nitpick is unmistakenably a Johnny 5 predecessor!

What say you, MMM?

There is also a toy robot prop used on the same episode. Is it made of any robot parts we can identify?

Ok here is the proof. a picture of Eric Allard and the robot HENRY 8. The robot was origional called PAL and used in short 17 minute film then renamed HERNY the 8th for the TV show Wizard. It was built to get the job of building the Johnny 5 robots for Short circuit.

Interview.
Eric also showed me PAL the little robot which had earned him the job to build Number Five. Very ironically, this little robot was later used in the final episode of the TV show The Wizard. He played a robot character named H.E.N.R.I. VIII, he was the eighth prototype of an intelligent robot which had been designed by the Wizard, who was played by the late David Rappaport. The robot was even equipped with a little laser gun. The show aired in the spring of 1988 and was an obvious knock-off of Short Circuit! It was hoped that the idea of adding the robot character might save the show from eminent cancellation. It's too bad that the plan didn't work because I love the episode, for obvious reasons, and I surely would have continued to watch the show with the robot on it.
