Hey Don, it's been awhile since you have shown your collection. I would love to see a few current shots of the shelves!

Robert -

The problem is that I now live in a postage stamp size studio that offers very little display space and most of my collection is put wherever it will fit including shelves that are more storage than display and even in a storage space in the next town. If I wanted to post pics of all the toys in my apartment it would have to be about twenty pics as boxes and toys are all over the place. I have one corner cabinet for the rayguns which has turned into a crammed mess so those pics would be more embarrassing than anything. Plus my collection was at it's peak around 2012, since then I've been forced to sell 90% of my robots and my top dozen rarest saucers. Here is the collection right before it's peak when I had the space to display.

How about some pics of your collection?

Thanks for all the comments from my friends!!

Great new addition and what a wonderful display!

What a fantastic collection you had and what a pity you had to sell up!

Somewhere there must be or should be a video of my collection in about 1993-94. I remember Brian called in to see it at the time, and he bought a boxed 'Space Division Number 3' off me too.  I had 6 large bookshelves and a cupboard full to bursting of robots. I mention it to my wife now and again and she is very vague re the old video camera and the tapes and changes the subject quite quickly!!  I must admit that if we still have it then I have not a clue where it is and I have not seen it since we moved to our current house some 18 years ago. I have the awful feeling she threw it out or gave it away! :blub:

The German word 'frivol' seems to have a slightly different meaning than your use of 'frivolous'. But still goes very well with this enormous rocket! 👍 Congratulations!

Don, thanks for the links to a view of your fabulous world class collection! I can commiserate with you having to sell some things. Been there and done that myself. My new collection is coming along, but I also have trouble with display space. I will shoot some new pictures tomorrow and post.

Fin it is a shame you had to sell some of your collection.

I decided to do the same thing a while back but the love of these old toys will  never diminish.

Like you seemed to have done,

when the time is right I am sure I will collect a few key pieces again.

Spark - Thanks but I'm still having fun and that's the important thing. Besides, if I still had all my robots they would be in storage anyway. While my space toy collection has lost some pieces since the video was taken there have been many new additions as well including a few hard to find boxes. I have branched out into rockets and space cars so the collection has evolved laterally. Watching the video it's clear how focused on flying saucers I was then. Now I'm in a position where the only saucers I need are all out of my range (If I couldn't afford to keep them I certainly can't afford to buy them back) so the rockets and space cars offer a field that I can afford. I've become sort of a "deal specialist", with underpriced BIN's being my area of opportunity, few and far between as they are.

I am tempted by robots now and then but climbing that latter again is just too daunting a task. It feels much better adding to the healthy, pre existing ray gun and space toy collections. I will say if I ever do get back into robots I'll have a better idea of what will be most satisfying to own.

Robert - looking forward to the pics.

Ranger and Les - Thanks!

Lunik - I tried a translation sight and Frivol in German came back as Frivolous which means "without seriousness or importance". I'm curious now what your definition is!

F.J.W., I'm not sure if I can explain this properly, at least not in one word. There certainly is some quite equvalent expression in your language, colloquial perhaps.

The German use of 'frivol' is much associated with situations of sexual teasing, as often done in seemingly unintended ways or at least not frankly hardcore. E. g. Gentlemen's stories, Paris Can Can Shows - offensive but usually not considered to be over the edge. Such behaviour or situation can thus be excused as light hearted, a bit risky perhaps. This comes close to 'without seriousness or importance' but meant with a sexual context or allows sexual and non-sexual interpretation at the same time. Does 'piquant' cover part of this? It needs the noncommittal twist.

Or do I know the wrong people?

The frivolous showing off of a screw.

This is a bit offensive, sexually related, but not really teasing anybody, I suppose. Not quite the example for something 'frivol', but I couldn't resist:
