1963 - Mr. Mercury (gold) By Marx

See:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...6907847320&rd=1

and this page specifically:

http://www.myweb.cableone.net/burkhardt/1spiegel6.jpg

Also depicted in this ad are Big Loo, Robot Commando and Cragstan's Mr. Robot (Red Body/Black Arms).

The current TIMELINE lists the following:

1961 - Mr. Mercury Blue Plastic Arm - Sears Catalogue & David Kirk Photo

1963 - Metal arm Mr. Mercury - Sears Catalogue

1964 - Metal arm Mr. Mercury - Montgomery Wards & Sears Catalogue

No reference to the color of the metal arm version is made. I checked the Sears Catalogs for 1963 & 1964. They both depict the gold color variation (the chest lettering on the gold version is a different font type than the blue version and can be easily distinguished in the black & white catalog photos). I couldn't find the toy in my M.W. catalog re-print book, so I don't know what color variation was shown.

Brian -

May I suggest that the 1963 listing be changed to:

1963 - Mr. Mercury (Gold) Metal Arm - Sears & Spiegel Catalogues

and that the 1964 listing be eliminated completely.

Somewhere, out there, should be a catalog from 1962 showing the Mr. Mercury (Blue) Metal Arm version.

Yes, Joe, a good point. Robots like Mr Mercury are always difficult because of the variations over the years.

Here's a sighting that illustrates that the gold arm version was still in production and available as late as 1965 through this Sears catalog:

And this close-up, specifically:

Also depicted is the Yeti which has been the topic of a couple Robot Talk threads over the years. Note the cylindrical battery/control "box".
