1950s Space Cut Out Books

Another area of space memorabilia: space cutouts. Here are a few English ones I've found

1 The Rocket Ship by Balfour. A story book with a simple two-page card spaceship that you launch from a ramp.

2 Jet Space Car by Collins. A larger, more complex model of a space car, complete with metal axles.

Here's the most famous English cut out, the Dan Dare Anastasia Jet Plane. Published in 1955 and once extremely rare. A large number of these turned up in the 90s but it's still expensive. Price around £40.

This is the first of the press-out books based on Dan Dare's exploits in the Eagle comic: the Dan Dare Space Ship on its launch pad. Created by Wallis Rigby, as was the Anastasia model above. Rarer than the Anastasia.

I've not seen this one, The Book of Model Spaceships but I understand it's also by Wallis Riby. It contains 24-inch a spaceship, space car, helmet, raygun and other items.

The last Rigby book, Jets, Rockets, and Spaceships. Despite the cover it's mainly planes with just one spaceship.

Small but nicely detailed, the Woodbine Space Ship. Woodbine is a cigarette brand and presumably this was one of those mail-away offers. 1950s probably.

Here are some additional Wallis Rigby cardboard creations as offered on the rear dust jackets of 1950's Grosset & Dunlap books:

Thanks, Joe. That looks worth finding. I wonder if this is the same as the Book of Model Spaceships that's shown higher up. The contents sound similar.

It's probably exactly the same, Brian, as The Book of Model Space Ships was published by Grosset & Dunlap (1952):
