Ok, thanks guys! I think one of my problems might be that I'm using a small rubber band instead of an o-ring, but I have been to radioshack, lowes, hobby town and a few other places and cannot find the proper size o-ring at all... any pictures would be greatly appreciated!
Anyone have any ideas? My version has the two prongs that grasp the metal shaft inside the player. However, it will only turn on the motor when the button is pressed (and thus the pronged contacts are connected). This seems to be the opposite of what should be happening for this robot. Any ideas on a solution?
I can get it to play now! However, the only thing I don't get is mine if the version with the metal ring around the record post, so it only makes connection when you push the record down. When that happens is spins fine, but you have to hold it down and when you do, the needle doesn't touch. Is there supposed to be a spacer so it only plays when the record is up rather than pushed back?
Thanks for your help! So the point of the diaphragm should be touching the plastic arm of the needle and the wire is just there to spring the needle back in place? I think I get it, I had a hard time figuring out how that worked, I will have to fiddle some more with it! Is the diaphragm supposed to be glued in place? It looked like mine was, but the glue has since deteriorated... Anyways, I will fiddle and let you guys know what happens!
Bump. Can anyone provide any help or ideas about this? I am still trying to get this robot to talk, I can get everything to spin, but when the needle touches it's just a bunch of bad noise... any help? thanks guys!
I looked at the pictures from the first few pages and the insides of my talking robot look the same except for one thing. Mine has a thin piece of metal wire that looks like it comes from the needle and then wraps a few times around a metal post at the pivot side of the plastic needle mechanism then the rest of the wire just hangs off. Is is supposed to be like this or is all of the wire supposed to be wrapped around the post? I will attach a picture for further clarity. Thanks!
Also, I have looked for some o-rings suggested earlier to replace the rubber, but I can't find any the right size, any suggestions on where to buy? I went to Lowes to look for some, but all of them were either too large or too small...
One more thing, I have been playing around with the mechanism and I'm not sure how the arm stays on the disk... mine kinda just goes down slowly and then falls off and nothing more... I can hear some scratching, but no actual words... I have cleaned the disk and the needle...
