bit more work done on the saucer, the led lights work well very bright, the instument panel has a couple of layers of perspex[plexiglass} behind it with instument details scribed in on different levels to give it a bit of depth.
the domed area on the right of the instrument panel will eventually contain a juke box with miniature 45s , inspired by a dome fronted wurlitzer i once saw.
that's a very classy conversion John, great work as always.
is there a source of coloured light lenses other than ripping toys apart ? i have real trouble locating suitable red dome type lights for my stuff, all the best ones from cheap Chinese crappo toys seem to have disappeared over the last few years.
great stuff andy ! rust is all the rage, and if you want to improve your rust technique have a root around youtube and have a look at what some of the modelling guys have been up too.
look for salt chipping and hairspray technique you will be amazed at what you can do.
Thanks Joe, it is kind of huge at least for me, nearly a meter across, the dome is beaten out from a flat sheet with a ball pein hammer on a wooden post and the dish started life as patio heater reflector, i have access to an english wheel and a swager, very cool metalworking tools, so i modified the dish a little for a better profile.
no photoshopping apart from taking out the post i balanced it on to take the photo, i think its just a perspective thing,
hi guys new saucer in the works and some vaugely sci fi looking stoves i built recently.
the saucer is nearly a meter across built almost entirely from aluminium , i want structure to resemble a real airframe as closely as possible so im trying to stick to metal rivets nuts and bolts wherever possible.
also here are a couple of wood burners i built, inevitably they came out looking kind of sci fi ish so thought some of you guys might like em.
hi T, i have never actually sold one to anybody, given a few away but never sold one, i don't think i have a single capitalist bone in my body :) also its kind of hard to put a price on stuff when you pour so much time and effort into them, even if i pay myself the minimum wage the price is frankly silly, so i gave up trying to sell them ages ago.
the r2 is still the most sought after by far, and its still rattling around the internet, many people have tried and want badly, but sadly none have come over with the cash.
hi andy good to be back, well most of the things i have posted here apart from the red hotrod saucer and the steel saucer lamp which have been gifted to friends, hardly enough to fill a display case actually but its gonna be padded out with art work from my animations and a few of my papercraft models.
some of you may remember me posting a while back with this project, well its just about finished, imagine a speeder bike designed by innocenti factory in italy circa 1962.
small exhibition of my stuff is going on soon so its given me a kick up the arse to get things done.
terrible work situation has left me with practically no time for doing this kind of thing so its been hard as hell to get it finished.
i like this, its like primitive matel vertibird, probably my favourite ever childhood toy.
i had plans to make somthing along those lines a while back but the hellish complicated pivot mechanism beat me.
