As I write this I am in Kyoto – I read Gernot’s post too late and missed out on Osaka (doh! Just down the track!) – we went to a flea market the other day, but there wasn’t much there – just a blue horikawa, TV robot in OK condition and a couple of rockets – but they were all way overpriced. There was one interesting rocket that apparently is very rare. Taiwanese I think (or Nth Korean – I forget, sorry I’m not much good with rockets!). The seller said he had a shop in Osaka with many different robots, but he hadn’t brought any of them down with him. Anyway, I took a couple of pics in case anyone was interested. It was in mint condition.
There’s also apparently a shop with many robots just under the train station in Kobe called Motomachi City (? – the guy who told me didn’t speak very clear English) but I’m not sure if I’ll make it there before I leave.
Anyway, I’m having a great time here – loving the food and loving all the friendly Japanese people. They really are as lovely as everyone says they are!
Two days later I also visited Guy Antique in Tokyo which was also fantastic… Moktar was away but I had the immense pleasure of meeting Sumihiro who was very kind and spoke at length to me (albeit in broken English!).
