Reminds me of the Flying Jeep. This article might explain why this was a military themed toy despite being such a futuristic design.

Ever since I saw Timan's post about restoring a Pyro Energizer plastic space car that had been painted, I have been waiting to try his method of soaking a plastic toy in Simple Green cleaner as a safe paint remover. A couple of weeks ago I picked up this Radar Gun that I normally wouldn't have been interested in (because of the paint) so I could try the Simple Green method. As you can see by the before and after pics it worked extremely well. I merely soaked the gun over night in Simple Green and in the morning the paint was soft enough to gently scrub off with a toothbrush. Very quick and easy! Thanks to Bill for this excellent tip!

What a collection! Thanks for the pics Deep Space-11. I have never seen those whistles before. Your focus is exactly what I find myself most interested in now. Small, very colorful vintage tin litho - the earlier the better! It probably has a lot to do with my very limited display space. Battery op toys take up so much real estate. Congrats on a fantastic collection!

Looking for vintage tin rockets, any size, from Japan or similar.
Already have Masudaya X-2, German Jupiter D-119, small V-3 and Sparkling Space Ranger.
    Thanks.

Thanks so much for the reply Deep Space-11!! And welcome to Alphadrome. This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. So your example makes at least four Space Jets known to exist. Do you think the collector who owns the Atom Car might have bought it from the Alan Rosen auction? Or should we consider two examples of the Atom Car to be known? Great collection by the way!! can we see some more pics?

    That makes sense. Thanks Gernot!

    If it works!
  8. Fineas J. Whoopie added a post in a topic: Cragstan Z-26 Flying Saucer Box question

I recently acquired this Z-26 box and after I got it home I noticed something that is puzzling me. For some reason someone has written the catalog number on the face of the box in pencil and there is a sticker that has the catalog number printed on it and another set of numbers - possibly a  collectors catalog or auction number - in pen. Both these markings are in addition to the catalog number originally printed on the side of the box when it was made.

My question is can anyone think of why the catalog number would be added to the box - twice - even though it's already printed as part of the box graphics? Perhaps someone knows of a collector or museum who did this? I kind of want to think it was part of Yoshiya or Cragstan's archives in some way but that is probably just wishful thinking. Any thoughts?

Awesome! Congrats!! So you found two examples with different condition issues and made one whole gun out of them? Nice job!
  10. Fineas J. Whoopie added a post in a topic: Space Jet Car

The Space Jet arrived and it looks so much better in person than it did in the auction pictures. The seller said he lights his auction pics to deliberately accentuate the flaws so all of his customers are happy when they get their toys. I certainly am!! I'm thinking there are only three know examples of this toy. Unless someone here can point out another? I'm also thinking there is only one known example of the Atom Car. If whoever owns the Atom Car decides to sell it can you please contact me? Thanks.

That version is not "rare" but a great piece that can be found. There is a different version that is harder to find seen here. I believe both these versions are in the database.

  12. Fineas J. Whoopie added a post in a topic: Was there ever a Remco space rifle?

Yeah I think you are right Brady. It was sort of a dumb question to begin with. If there were a Remco space rifle I'm sure we would have seen one, besides, this prop was  sloppily made anyway.
  13. Fineas J. Whoopie added a post in a topic: Was there ever a Remco space rifle?

Good point Joe. That bulb style handle would never have been used on a production toy. Now I'm wondering if the Remco design likeness is just a coincidence?
  14. Fineas J. Whoopie added a post in a topic: Was there ever a Remco space rifle?

I just noticed the rifle in this lobby card. It looks like it was based on a Remco space gun. Did this space rifle ever exist as a production piece or is this a one off prop?

You are welcome. Something strange happened here. I was responding to your comment that English is not your first language in the thread about Alphadrome blogs. Somehow the comment was posted on this thread.....strange! Probably my error......

Hey, what's your email address? I have mollymo on mind, but I know that's not it any more. I don't even use an address book. I just keep people's names in mind. That's so backward I know.

Thanks T6, I try. I'm new to this function of the board. What exactly is the difference between someone who is on your friends list and someone who is not? Does someone on your friends list have extra privileges or something? Just curious.

At the very least it is a complement. Thanks!!

    Fin,

I've decided to add you as a friend since you have replied to all my posts with civility and candor. That, plus you haven't fired a broadside across my bow.
