Hi I wanted to share a special moment that recently happened to me. When sorting through some of my childhood toys in preparation for selling on eBay, I came across a couple of robots, still in their original box. 1 turns out to be a Masudaya Target Robot (see attached photograph), the other an ALPS Television Spaceman.

Well having searched the web to find out a bit more about this robot and having contacted Darryl Dupuis (Robotnut), I relaise that the Target robot is rather 'special'! As you can tell, I'm no robot expert but have learnt a great deal over the past couple of weeks! I have held off placing this robot on eBay for now and may be placing this in one of the specialist toy auctions later this year?

I'm interested to know if there is anyone in this group that may be interested in either of these robots - I can send further pictures if you wish. You can contact me through the forum or directly via email at cameronp@bp.com or paulcameron@btconnect.com or on my mobile +44 779 506 1874.

Thanks for all of your advice over the past week Darryl - much appreciated!

So that's my story - it's amazing what you can find in your attic! Needless to say, this is one robot which is NOT going back up to the attic!!!

Regards
Paul Cameron

Nice to see you onboard Paul !
Here's a picture of Paul's robot, box and gun. It looks
in wonderful condition, but I don't think the gun is original.
I've seen about a dozen of these robots over the years
and they always have the black tin automatic style gun, not
a revolver. If anyone else has seen this gun before with
this robot, the info would be of value to Paul...

No that does not look like the origional tin dart gun that I have and have seen with all target robots.

I have seen one Target sell with an original gun in original packaging (supposedly)... It looked like this one, more or less. This also matches the one on the box art, if I remember correctly. I know of at least one high-end collector who feels that the tin automatic that often sells with the Target is incorrect, or at least a later change in style.

Sadly, I don't have any photos of the toy I saw, nor do I have any documentation proving the authenticity of the plastic, revolver-style gun. Hell, I'm not even claiming to believe its validity myself. Most of you have a lot more experience in these things than I. However, I just wanted to throw it out there as one more piece of the puzzle.

Regardless... that's one heck of a nice robot...

The tin gun comes from a Target Set that always gets confused with Target Robot because of the T in the M design on the handle. (it's not Modern Toys) This one is the REAL one. A plastic 6 shooter that IS pictured on the box.

I have the Tin Gun in the right Target Game that shows the gun (an automatic) on the box.

Wishful thinking on the part of the lucky ones who have a Target and wish their tin gun was the right one.

See the Morita Book page 26.

Hey Paul,
Welcome. What a couple of great finds! I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the results of any sale of these two items. Or, if you decide to become a "collector" you are well on your way to a very nice robot collection. wink.gif

I can't say where I remember seeing it, but I know of at least one Target that has a pressed tin revolver style dart gun. I think the real answer here is that this toy most likley had a few different versions of the gun packaged with it.

I know the gun pictured on the box is a revolver style and have no idea how you could tell it's plastic (SH MIKE do you know more than you're letting on? wink.gif )

I beleive it's a tin gun that goes with this bad boy. Automatic or revolver, who knows?

When I asked Paul, he did find the plastic revolver in the
box when he rediscovered his robot. All of the Target
Robots I've seen in person have had the tin gun, but
that doesn't really mean anything. They could have used
different guns or dealers and collectors could have replaced
the guns later. Did anyone else have this toy as a child ?
I've asked Paul if he could carefully examine the gun for
any marks. The learning never ends... biggrin.gif

P.S. Here's the "classic" tin gun...
